On September 14, 2005, twenty one hound dogs, badly emaciated and injured, were confiscated by Charleston County animal services and taken to the SPCA.The dogs were discovered living in water and feces up to their knees. The dogs were without food and their water was green with mosquito larvae in it. Herbert Murray Jr. 60, of Old Pond Road, claimed ownership of 17 of the dogs and has been charged with 17 counts of cruelty to animals. Mr. Murray's bail was set at $1,087 each for the 17 counts of animal cruelty he faces. Custody of the dogs was awarded to the County and this case is pending.
