The deaths of what appear to be an entire litter of puppies is under investigation in Buford. Gwinnett Police say area resident Victor Ford found the puppies in a bloody pillow case on December 22, 2005, in the Hillcrest Glen subdivision. Ford said the case weighed approximately 10 pounds, and contained several puppies, dead from apparent blunt force trauma.
"I looked inside, and there was a bunch of dead, what looked like a whole litter of puppies," Ford said.
"[This is] unusual and very disturbing," said a Gwinnett County officer on the scene. "This will be assigned to an investigator and looked into. Right now, we don't have any information."
Animal Cruelty is a felony in Georgia. Case Updates Investigators have charged 41-year-old John Phillip Peace with 14 counts of cruelty to animals in connection with a pillowcase of dead puppies discovered in a Buford neighborhood. Police say a pillowcase containing 14 dead puppies and a 10 lb. weight were found in the Hillcrest Glenn Subdivision in Gwinnett County. A medical examination revealed the puppies died of blunt force trauma. Police believe the same weight that was discovered with the puppies was used to kill them.
Officials say after an investigation in the neighborhood, Peace admitted to owning the puppies but said he was not responsible for their deaths. Police say the statements Peace made did not match the physical evidence at the scene and he was arrested.
Peace has been charged with 14 counts of felony animal cruelty and is currently being held at the Gwinnett County Detention Center. | Source: WSB Tv News - January 6, 2006 Update posted on Jan 6, 2006 - 9:30PM |
