In December 2005, animal welfare investigators seized 30 roosters and seven hens suspected of being used for cockfighting. The birds were found in a Redmond home, where investigators say they also discovered steroids, syringes for injecting steroids and razor blades. An animal welfare officer says the blades are typically attached to the legs of a rooster during fights.
Investigators learned of the suspected cockfighting through an anonymous tip. No arrests have been made and the address of the home has not been made public. The humane society will attempt to find homes for the hens. The roosters will be euthanized because they are too prone to violent behavior.
