Exotic dealer operating without license La Feria, TX (US)Incident Date: Wednesday, May 31, 2000 County: Cameron
Disposition: USDA Citation
Person of Interest: Elaine Bennett
June 8, 2000--The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently charged animal dealer Elaine Bennett, doing business as the Rio Grande Valley Monkey Jungle & Sanctuary in La Feria, Texas, with violations of the Animal Welfare Act.
"We believe Bennett sold several animals without a license," said W. Ron DeHaven, deputy administrator for animal care with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, a part of USDA's marketing and regulatory programs mission area. "Operating without a license is a serious offense. It not only allows people to avoid inspection and conduct business outside of the law, keeps us from ensuring proper care to the animals as required by the law."
