more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Dog thrown, beaten, kicked
Cahersiveen, IR (UK)

Incident Date: Friday, Jul 29, 2005

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Sean McSherry

A €75 fine imposed by Cahersiveen District Court on a Cahersiveen man who ill-treated his Beagle pub was criticised this week by the Kerry Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for being too lenient.

The court heard Sean McSherry of Old Road, Cahersiveen had caught the dog by its tail and swung it around banging the animal off the side of nearby cars. The incident took place at 1.15am at Fertha Drive in Cahersiveen on July 29, 2005 after Mr McSherry had been drinking.

Gardaí received complaints from residents that the dog was being kicked and ill-treated.
Two people reported seeing Mr McSherry catching the dog by its tail and swinging it around. The dog was so frightened it ran off, the court heard. Mr McSherry later signed the dog over to the Kerry SPCA.

Mr McSherry, who is unemployed, told the court that he owned the dog for about a month and on the evening in question was drunk so he could not remember much about it. Judge James O'Connor fined Mr McSherry €75 and gave him four months to pay the fine.
