Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

A 7-month-old puppy Layla went missing December 15, 2005. When the puppy returned on December 17, 2005, she was found lying in a pool of blood on the back porch.

Veterinarians who operated on Layla said she was shot at close range with an unknown type of gun in the throat area. The bullet exited through the right side of the animal. The puppy was in serious condition when it was first brought to VCA Highlands Animal Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia on Saturday. Those who were there that day witnessed a little dog fighting for its life. By Monday Layla was improving, although amputating the left front leg was considered because of the severity of her injury. Doctors predicted Layla would make a full recovery. That's great news for those like Veronica Hurst who feared the worst. "She's definitely our miracle puppy." She said.

Veronica and her husband Tony are very angry about what happened and they want to know who shot their puppy and why. So do Animal Control officers. They say this kind of thing doesn't happen that often in Washington County. The investigation will continue.
