14 animal cruelty charges were filed May 2, 2002 against the owner and operator of Faye's Bird Room in Youngwood, PA. Humane Officers, Elaine Gower and Kathy Hecker filed the charges in the court of The Honorable James Falcon after seizing several dozen birds, over 60 mice and a cat from Faye Good who runs a bird breeding business out of her home at 611 4th Street Extension.
Officer Hecker of Animals Friends and Officer Elaine Gower of Action for Animals conducted a preliminary inspection of the animals in response to complaints from customers. They found over 200 birds, rabbits, mice and several cats in overcrowded, unsanitary and unhealthy conditions. The animals seized all exhibited varying degrees of disease, injury and generally poor health and were taken for medical treatment.
The birds and mice are being treated and held by Animal Friends and Action for Animals pending a judgment. Many of birds are rare exotics which sell for several hundred dollars each.
