On December 8, 2005, Joanne Grant, Morristown, NJ, was charged with 7 counts of animal neglect, 7 counts of no proof of rabies innoculations and cat license.
All 7 cats and kittens seized are in need of medical attention and three are pregnant and one has a severe Upper Respiratory Infection and will need at least ten days of antibiotics before any other treatment. All cats have Ear mites, Flea Infestation, Uris and Parasites. All cats are being held in protective custody and being treated accordingly. One of the cats had a bad reaction to the fleas and is suffering from extreme hair loss. Treatment for this should put her back to normal and her fur should grow back.
The eye condition that the cats suffer from could be related to the overwhelming ammonia in the home. One of the cats is on the verge of losing their second eye; the Vet has recommended treatment in the eye. However, it could have been easily avoided with immediate treatment once the owner noticed the cloudy eyes. At this point the root cause of infection is hard to determine.
Ms. Grant will appear on January 6, 2005 in Morristown Municipal Court for her first plea date.
