Firefighters were called to a garage fire November 30, 2005, in New Castle where they found four kittens who had been placed in a grill lid and were burned to death. The garage is detached from an abandoned house on 17th Street.

One kitten, who was not burned, and two adult cats were found later that afternoon wandering around. The cats were named after cast members from the television show "Survivor." The adult cats were dubbed Amber and Rob, while the kitten is called Rupert.

The cats were taken to the New Castle Animal Shelter where they were given shots and are being kept in an isolated room. Fire investigators are still trying to find out who committed the act.
