weak sentence = one star

more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Puppy mill - 41 dogs seized
Fruitland, FL (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Aug 30, 1997
County: Lake

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Marjorie Elaine Duso

On August 30, 1998, 41 neglected dogs were seized from a kennel owned by Marjorie Duso, Fruitland, Florida.

According to court documents, the dogs were living in unsanitary conditions, infested with fleas and sores, had contagious skin conditions, lacked proper certification for rabies, lacked proper health certificates, lacked proper medical care, and were lacking in proper food and water.

The Putnam County (Florida) Humane Society brought an action seeking permanent custody of 41 dogs from Duso. Under that authority, the PCHS seized and took custody of the dogs after an investigation led to the discovery of neglect and mistreatment of the dogs at the kennel.

Duso was arrested and charged with various violations related to animal cruelty, contagious diseases, health requirements, and nuisances.

The Putnam County Court granted the PCHS custody of the dogs (except for Ms. Duso's personal pet dog, which the PCHS was given the right to check on at least once a month). Further, the court enjoined Ms. Duso from owning, possessing, or breeding dogs in the future.
