Person of Interest: Frank Weed

In January of 1995, animal exhibitor Frank Weed & Florida Endangered Species Research Association, located in Immokalee Florida, agreed to surrender his USDA license and pay a civil penalty of $10,000 which is to be suspended provided that Weed does not violate the Act for a period of one year. Weed also agreed to be permanently disqualified from becoming licensed as an exhibitor. Charged with failing to:

Construct and maintain facilities for animal so that they are structurally sound, in good repair and appropriate for the animal involved

Store supplies of food so as to protect against contamination

Provide for the rapid elimination of excess water from housing facilities for animals

Provide animals kept outdoors with shelter from inclement weather

Keep food and water receptacles clean and sanitized

Maintain primary enclosures for animals in a clean and sanitary condition

Keep the premises clean and in good repair and free of accumulations of trash, junk, waster and discarded matter, and to control weeds, grasses, and bushes

Establish and maintain an effective program of pest control

Establish and maintain a program of adequate veterinary care and provide veterinary care to animals in need

Maintain records of the acquisition, disposition, description, and identification of animals.
