On July 31, 2005, a warrant was issued for Frances Michele Brown for animal cruelty. Brown's dog, reportedly suffering from vomiting and bloody diarrhea for three days, was put on her back porch and left to die.

Once the dog died, Brown called Animal Control and requested that they come pick the dog up off of her back porch. Since Animal Control does not routinely pick up deceased animals from private properties, an Animal Control Officer drove to Brown's house. Upon her arrival, the Animal Control Officer stated that she observed a white male pit bull, deceased, on the back porch in the rain. He had a bloody towel pushed up agaisnt his rectum and was lying on newspapers. The Animal Control Officer took the dog's body to the vet and had him checked. The dog tested positive for parvo.

On November 4, 2005, Brown was convicted of cruelty to animals. She was sentenced to 12 months in jail, which was suspended. She was placed on 5 years of probation, fined $1000.00, and must perform 200 hours of community service. Washington was also banned from owning companion animals.
