Dozens of cats were found in a Plymouth, Minn. house December 6, 2005, police said. Police were searching the house on the 9900 block of 26th Avenue North in connection with a burglary investigation when they found the cats.

At least 36 cats and one Brittany spaniel were removed from the house and placed with the Golden Valley Humane Society. The animals were living among cat carcasses and feces, and authorities believe many other animals could still be hidden inside.

The cats are under a 10-day quarantine. The animals will be cleaned up and receive food, medicine and attention. If the cats can be rehabilitated, shelter reps hope to put them up for adoption in about a month.

No humans were living inside the house, officials said. A young adult male was found living in a pup tent in the garage and was taken into police custody.

The owner of the house told WCCO-TV she didn't know the animals were there. She said her daughter moved out of the house in the spring and may have left some cats behind.
