A Carson City man was arrested November 26, 2005, on suspicion he shot his neighbor's cat.
The woman said that around 6:45 p.m. she heard a howl from her cat and a gunshot, according to the arrest report.

She heard the cat wailing from the yard of neighbor Wesley Tipton, 61, and searched for it in his yard, but it ran back to her yard when she tried to pick it up, the report said.

The cat was bleeding severely from a hole in its stomach and appeared to be partially paralyzed in its rear legs, the report said. She took it to a veterinarian who told the woman the cat would never walk again even with surgery, the report said. The deputy went to Tipton's residence who said the cat continually came to his residence to howl and animal control did nothing despite his complaints, the report said. Tipton said he used a .22-caliber rifle to shoot the cat, and the deputy got the rifle from a closet, the report said.

Tipton was arrested on suspicion of illegal discharge of a firearm, a gross misdemeanor, and killing an animal, a misdemeanor. Reached Monday at his home, Tipton said he had no comment.
