On November 29, 2005, Jennifer Perry, 31, of Henton Road, was charged with three counts of cruelty to an animal, a misdemeanor, Rebecca Medina, Stray Haven director of operations, said.

Two horses that Medina said were malnourished and at the risk of death were seized and removed from the Perry home.

A third horse that was initially observed at the Perry residence was removed from the property when authorities returned to the property to seize the animals, Medina said. Medina said the two horses have been placed in foster care where they are being treated by a local veterinarian.

Medina said the horses are several hundred pounds underweight, infected with lice and a fungal skin infection and have open sores caused by being exposed to the extreme elements.

Medina asked anyone who may have seen the missing malnourished horse to contact Stray Haven officials at 607-565-2859.

Perry is scheduled to appear before Barton Town Justice Joseph Fravel at a later date, Medina said.

Stray Haven also is in need of feed and hay for the horses. Donations are tax-deductible and can be mailed or dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays at the shelter, 194 Shepard Road, Waverly, N.Y.

Case Updates

Local officials are asking for help with their efforts to locate four malnourished and sick horses who have been missing since the county was supposed to take them into custody following their initial discovery last week. Their owner, Jennifer Perry, was charged with cruelty to animals after Stray Haven Humane Society investigators discovered six horses in poor condition. "Three of the horses were extremely emaciated and suffering from a number of different medical conditions," including fungal skin infections and open sores, a Stray Haven investigator told news sources.

PETA is offering as much as $1,000 for information that helps officials to locate the horses. Will you please consider sharing this information with your audience? It may be the only way to locate the missing animals.

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact Stray Haven Humane Society at 607-565-2859.

Stray Haven Humane Society Animal Cruelty Investigator Andrea Warren announced Saturday that the organization has seized two starving horses from Jennifer Perry, 31, of Waverly, who has been charged with three counts of animal cruelty for neglecting three horses to the point of near death.
The investigation into this incident occurred after Stray Haven received a call from a concerned citizen about several horses that were described as very, very skinny, Warren said. Warren said she responded to the scene, and found five horses and a Shetland pony on the property. Three of the horses were extremely emaciated and suffering from a number of different medical conditions, Warren said. Perry was instructed to obtain a veterinarian immediately to examine the horses. Perry refused to cooperate in a timely manner. Perry then received a notice of arrest from the Tioga County Sheriff's Department and will come before (Barton Town Justice) Joe Fravel to face charges of animal cruelty.

Warren said she entered the property to take custody of the horses, but Perry had removed all but two of them to an unknown location. Stray Haven officials are now asking the public to inform them if these horses are near you. One of the horses that was removed from the property is in desperate need of medical care, Warren said.

The two rescued horses are in a foster home where they have been receiving around the clock care from a veterinarian, Warren said. These horses are several hundred pounds underweight, are infested with lice and suffering from a fungal skin infection with open sores caused by being exposed to the extreme elements, she said. Both horses are very weak and are still at risk of death.
Stray Haven officials said the organization is in desperate need of donations to help care of these horses. Our foster home is in need of feed and hay, Warren said.
