Cat caught in conibear trap Timmins, ON (CA)Incident Date: Wednesday, Jul 6, 2005
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Lorne Weir
Lorne Weir, 55, of South Porcupine was charged on October 5, 2005 under the Criminal Code of Canada with two counts of causing unnecessary pain and injury to a cat, Snowflake.
On July 6, 2005 the Timmins & District Humane Society received a complaint from Weir's neighbour saying that the family's cat had been caught in a conibear trap (a body gripping trap traditionally used by licensed trappers) on Weir's property.
Snowflake's owners took him to a veterinarian where he was hospitalized for further observation and treatment before being sent home. Sadly, Snowflake had a poor response to therapy and his condition worsened. Less than a week after Snowflake was discharged he was brought back to the veterinarian and euthanized due to symptoms associated with severe head trauma.
Lorne Weir is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Timmins on December 13, 2005. References
