2 dogs shot by deer hunter, one dies Owego, NY (US)Incident Date: Wednesday, Nov 30, 2005 County: Tioga
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Gary Browne
A Binghamton-area deer hunter, 34 year old Gary Browne of Owego, was arrested for shooting two dogs, killing one of them. A 4 month old lab was fatally shot, and an adult rottweiler is now recovering from being shot.
Authorities say Browne was sitting in a tree stand when he shot the dogs. He was arrested last night, shortly after the incident. He has been charged with animal cruelty.
A Tioga County Sheriff's Department official said dog shootings seem to happen every year during deer hunting season. The official said when some hunters go into the woods, they -- in his words -- "don't think too well."
He said many times, no arrests are made when a dog has been shot because the person responsible can't be found. References« NY State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Tioga County, NY
