Authorities have charged a Hope man with animal cruelty for fatally stabbing a horse that had thrown him. Twenty-one-year-old Mario Monk was picked up by police after the Nov 25 incident.

A caller told police that there was a dead and bloody horse at the intersection of Berry and Walker streets.

Hope police Lieutenant Jim Bush says witnesses reported the horse threw Monk on Walker Street. Monk allegedly went into his house and then returned. A moment later, the horse was bloodied and then it died.

Bush says officers traced the blood to Monk's home.

According to reports, Monk was angry with the horse for bucking him, and for "going to the bathroom" on the front porch.

Monk has been arrested numerous times for Battery 3rd and once for Battery 2nd.  His arrest include public drunkenness, disorder conduct, and criminal mischief.

Monk has numerous traffic convictions and well as one conviction for public drunkenness and one for Battery 3rd.
