A 3-month old puppy was found dead in an eastern Ohio town with its feet and head wrapped in duct tape. The mixed breed, named Tiny Jr., had been missing for almost a week when it was found, said Jackie Adkins, whose family owned the dog. It was found by the Coshocton County Animal Shelter.

"I don't understand how anybody could do anything close to this," Adkins said.

"Someone deliberately tortured this puppy," said Chris Sturtz, who works at the animal shelter. "If people could see this it would really make them angry."

Tiny Jr. was found last week. Three other dogs in the town are missing, and Sturtz warned residents to closely watch their pets.

The Coshocton County sheriff's office was investigating.

Case Updates

A West Lafayette man will spend 20 days in jail for torturing and killing his family's puppy, then lying about it.

Adam T. Adkins, 27, of 400 W. Main St., West Lafayette, was sentenced in Coshocton Municipal Court Monday to 180 days in jail, with 160 days suspended, after he pleaded guilty to a cruelty to animal charge and two falsification charges, all first-degree misdemeanors.

Municipal Court Judge Timothy France also placed Adkins on two years probation, fined him $566 and ordered him to complete a counseling program. France allowed Adkins to serve his jail time on weekends.

Adkins was arrested in January in connection the 3-month-old puppy's death in November 2005.
The mixed-breed puppy, named Tiny Jr., was found by county humane officer Chris Sturtz with its legs and head bound in duct tape. Sturtz contacted Adkins' wife, Jackie, who identified the puppy as their missing pet.

During an investigation about the incident several people were interviewed, including Adam Adkins, who gave officers two false statements, according to the West Lafayette Police Department.

Meanwhile a Fresno resident organized a reward fund for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for Tiny Jr.'s death.

Sher Alloway collected $1,800, but none of the money was used since the case was solved by police investigations and no tip or lead was involved in the arrest. Alloway offered refunds to donors through several notifications in the Coshocton Tribune following Adkins' arrest.

Alloway is considering options for the money, including the possibility of donating it to the Animal Shelter to help with veterinary bills and the neuter and spay program.

The West Lafayette Police Department arrested one man January 11, 2006 night in connection with torturing and killing a 3-month-old puppy. The case attracted national headlines and prompted the Humane Society of the United States to offer a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Adam T. Adkins, 27, of 400 W. Main St., West Lafayette, has been charged with animal cruelty, a first-degree misdemeanor; and two counts of false statements.

The puppy, named Tiny Jr., was found Nov. 18, 2005 near Baltic with its legs and head bound in duct tape. The mixed-breed puppy was owned by Jackie Adkins of West Lafayette. During the investigation, evidence was collected and latent prints were processed. West Lafayette Police Chief Thomas V. Bradshaw said several individuals were interviewed along with Adkins, who gave officers two false statements during the investigation.

News of the puppy's death appalled many residents. Sher Alloway of Fresno began collecting reward money before the Humane Society chipped in. There was no information available on who might collect the rewards.
