A Columbia woman has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty for allegedly failing to feed her boxer puppy.

Misty Strong, 29, was arrested by Columbia Police Officer Brandon Ward on Nov 29. Ward said he received an anonymous complaint about the dog and found the puppy chained in the womans back yard. He said it was visibly malnourished.

The puppy was about 1-month old and was just days away from dying, Ward said. It was supposed to be a pet.

Ward said Strong admitted to him she hadnt been feeding the dog. He said he sought a warrant for Strongs arrest from a magistrate, served the warrant and seized the dog.

He said aggravated animal cruelty is the willing and deliberate neglect of an animal or the assault of an animal with a deadly weapon.

A person who cant feed their animal because they havent got the money would just be charged with cruelty, Ward said.

Strong was released from custody on $1,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear before Judge Bobby Sands at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 13.
