Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff Ed Graybeal told local news that 41-year-old Ricky Conant was arrested Nov 27, after deputies responded to an animal abuse call.

The deputies found 19 chickens in cages without food or water.

Nine of the birds were already dead, and the other ten had been surviving by eating the remains of the other birds.

A cat was also taken from the home.

Conant is currently being held on $20,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov 28 on 20 counts of animal cruelty.

Case Updates

Sessions Judge Robert Lincoln sentenced Conant to 24 months on supervised probation after he pleaded guilty to two counts of animal cruelty.
