The U.S. Department of Agriculture fined Danny French of Richmond, Ky., for violations of the Horse Protection Act.
"French admitted trying to sell a horse that was sore at the 2000 Kentucky After Christmas Sale in Lexington," said W. Ron DeHaven, deputy administrator for animal care with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, a part of USDA's marketing and regulatory programs mission area. "As always, if we catch anyone participating in exhibitions, sales, shows, or auctions with a sore horse we will seek appropriate penalties."
French is disqualified for one year from showing, exhibiting, or entering any horse in any horse show or exhibition. He is also disqualified from judging, managing, or otherwise participating in any horse show or horse exhibition.
