Her owner moved away and left Freckles chained behind a trailer with no food, water, or shelter. Freckles tested positive for heartworms and began treatment on May 5, 2000.

Freckles has been cared for at the Lawrence County Humane Society, 700 Front Street, Ironton, Ohio 45638.

The Lawrence County Humane Society spent hundreds of dollars to get Freckles healthy, including heartworm treatment. The owner was fined 45 dollars.
