Disposition: Alleged
Alleged:
» Thomas Ayres
» Karen Ayres
In February 2003, Thomas and Karen Ayres of the Town of Mono were charged by the Ontario SPCA under the Criminal Code of Canada with wilfully neglecting or failing to provide suitable and adequate care for two horses.
Two horses were removed on veterinary recommendation from a property in the Town of Mono into the care of the Orangeville and District Branch of the Ontario SPCA.
Veterinary examination determined that both horses were in very poor body condition, were visibly lame and had matted manes and tails. One horse had cracked hind hooves and blood tests showed evidence of poor nutrition and muscle wasting. Water available to the horses was deemed undrinkable. Both horses are now at an appropriate body weight and in good body condition. They have been adopted into a new home together to live a happy retirement.
Thomas and Karen Ayres are due to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on the 14th October, 2003.
