A Williamsburg man is facing an animal cruelty charge in connection with the hanging of a dog from a tree, officials said.

Daniel Davis, 25, is accused of hanging his 1-year-old Australian shepherd in a state park after a dispute among family members about the dog.

Davis could be sentenced to six months behind bars and have to pay a $1,000 fine if convicted.
