The U.S. Department of Agriculture and United Airlines, Inc., a registered animal carrier based in Delaware, agreed to a consent decision and order regarding violations of the Animal Welfare Act.
United Airlines neither admitted nor denied any violations of the AWA but agreed to a civil penalty of $3,000.
"Our animal care inspectors work hard to make sure the AWA is respected by all of our registered carriers and intermediate handlers," said W. Ron DeHaven, acting deputy administrator for animal care with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, a part of USDA's marketing and regulatory programs mission area. "This includes adhering to standards to ensure the safe transportation of pets by commercial carriers."
