County: LitchfieldDisposition: Alleged
Alleged: Cale Carrico
An 18-year-old Connecticut man has been charged with cruelty to animals and breach of the peace for killing a gerbil.
According to police, Cale Carrico stomped the gerbil to death after it bit him when he took it out of his shirt pocket to show to some friends at a convenience store in Torrington. He told police it was a gift from his girlfriend.
The misdemeanor cruelty charge carries a punishment of up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
But as a first offender, Carrico is eligible for an accelerated rehabilitation program under which charges would be dropped.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges.
