On Sept. 30, 1996, the U.S. Department of Agriculture fined licensed animal exhibitors Charles E. Lohnes and Beverly A. Lohnes of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., doing business as the Vermont View Animal Park, $10,000 for violating the Animal Welfare Act. In addition, the Lohnes cannot apply for a new exhibitor's license for at least one year.

APHIS inspectors found AWA violations in the areas of shelter, storage, veterinary care, housing, and sanitation.
