The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently charged animal exhibitors Ronald Mokrzan, Eric Vansen, and Cayla Productions, Inc. doing business in Little Torch Key, Fla., with violations of the Animal Welfare Act.
"Our inspectors and investigators work hard to ensure that all animals within our purview receive care as mandated by the AWA," said W. Ron DeHaven, deputy administrator for animal care with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, a part of USDA's marketing and regulatory programs mission area. "In all cases, the safety of the animals is always foremost."
APHIS inspectors found that Mokrzan, Vansen, and Cayla Productions, Inc. failed to:
--Construct the primary enclosure for transporting live animals in such a manner that it was sufficient to contain live animals;
--Maintain a sufficient distance or barrier during public exhibition between the animals and the viewing public; and
--Construct the animal cargo space of the primary conveyance in such a manner that it was sufficient to protect the health and ensure the safety and comfort of the animals it contained. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
