Hoarding - 40 cats seized
Elgin, IL (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Nov 5, 2005
County: Kane

Disposition: Not Charged

Person of Interest: Sharon R. Reese

Dozens of cats are now up for adoption after animal control officers removed them from a house in Elgin November 5, 2005.

The officers were responding to complaints by neighbors who said the home of Sharon Reese was overrun by cats. Forty of the felines were removed. All of them appeared to be in good condition.

The elderly owner has been allowed to keep three cats.

"You see, these were all stray animals that nobody took responsibility for," Reese said. "And I love animals and I couldn't see that they starved."

Reese was not issued a citation for keeping all the cats in her home on second street.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges. Charges referenced in the original case report may be modified throughout the course of the investigation or trial, so case updates, when available, should always be considered the most accurate reflection of charges.
