Dog fatally shot during robbery
Lynwood, IL (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Nov 4, 2005
County: Cook

Disposition: Open

Person of Interest: 4 men

Cook County Sheriff's police are hunting for four men who allegedly terrorized some south suburban residents and shot and killed the family dog while demanding cash and drugs.

One resident was also beaten in the incident late in the night on Nov 4 at a mobile home in an unincorporated area near Lynwood.

Sheriff's police say they removed a bullet from the dead dog's body and will try to use it to identify the gun that was used.

Sheriff's police spokeswoman Penny Mateck said the four men were armed with pistols and a sawed-off shotgun when they forced their way into the home, demanding to speak with someone who wasn't there at the time.

The beating victim, identified only as a 49-year-old man, was taken to St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, where he was treated and released.
