Cat thrown into wall
West Hartford, CT (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Sep 9, 2005
County: Hartford

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Dean W. Anneser

A Granby man faces criminal charges after throwing a cat into a bedroom wall with enough force to open a fist-size hole in the wall, police said.

Dean W. Anneser, 21, of 14 Knollwood Lane of the West Granby section, was charged by warrant November 4, 2005 with a single count of cruelty to animals and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Hartford on Nov. 10.

The cat sustained a collapsed lung, a torn eyelid and "blunt trauma" that caused it to reflexively defecate on the bedroom floor, according to the arrest warrant.

Anneser, who could not be reached for comment, told police that his girlfriend's cat jumped on him while he was sleeping on the morning of Sept. 9 at her residence in West Hartford. He told police he threw the cat, causing it to bounce off a bedpost and hit the bedroom wall.

When Anneser's girlfriend, Kimberly Oquisanti, returned from a class that morning, she found the cat hiding under the kitchen sink with a cut on its eye and blood under its nose, according to the warrant.

She took the 18-month-old, black-and-tan cat to the CT Veterinary Center on Oakwood Avenue. Before she left for the vet, Anneser gave her $104 in cash, saying the money was not for the "stupid cat," but incentive for her not to break up with him, the warrant states.

After Anneser learned of the police investigation, he said he did not mean to harm the cat and offered to contribute to the medical costs, police said.

The cat was treated for its injuries and is recovering.
