Pit bulls were rescued from a house in northeast Columbus, and officials say the homeowner has been in trouble with authorities before.

Three of the nine dogs had to spend the night at a vet hospital. Humane agents say the pit bulls were suffering from bites and malnutrition. Investigators say those wounds are consistent with dog fighting.

Agents rescued the pit bulls from a home on Brentnell Avenue on the night of Nov 1 after several complaints of abuse.

The owner of the house, Terry Hicks, has had at least five run-ins with Franklin County Animal Control, dating back to last year when Hicks was cited for failure to license and failure to immunize.

In March of this year, there were 19 more citations, including improper confinement of a vicious dog.

One month later there were two citations for failure to control, that means dogs got loose.

Animal control says agents have visited the house on Brentnell Avenue twice in the past couple of weeks on more complaints that dogs were running loose.

Hicks is not facing any charges in connection with the dogs being taken from the house, and it will take at least one more day for humane agents to complete their investigation.
