On November 1, 2005, a former Wawaka man pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months in jail after 15 animals were found at his home in October 2004.

Arnold A. Whitt, 25, formerly of the 7400 block of County Road 450 West in Wawaka, pleaded guilty to one count of neglect of an animal in front of Noble Superior Division II Judge Michael J. Kramer, a written statement from the Noble County Prosecutors Office said.

Whitt was sentenced to six months in jail, the maximum sentence for the charge. After sentencing, he was taken to the Noble County Jail to begin serving his sentence in the neglect case.

Whitt was charged with neglect of an animal Nov. 3 after a Noble County sheriffs deputy found nine dogs, two cats, three donkeys and a miniature horse living in poor conditions at his home. Officers went to the home after receiving multiple complaints from concerned residents, the statement said.

Whitt also faces a burglary charge in Circuit Court, accused of breaking into a Ligonier business. He is expected to have a hearing in that case Dec. 8.
