Ira Gamble of DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, faces cruelty-to-animals charges stemming from the June 26 discovery of his emaciated and downed horse near Grand Cane. The animal had apparently been found roaming at large and evidently died soon after being rescued by a local humane agency. A necropsy of her remains was said to have determined that she died of a bloodworm infestation and malnutrition. Additional horses are believed to remain in the defendants charge.

The responsibility of prosecuting Gamble falls upon the office of Don Burkett, the district attorney for Louisianas 11th Judicial Circuit.
