A 21-year-old man is going to jail for 10 days for allegedly killing the family cat after his mother refused to give him money to buy beer. James Dunkle pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of cruelty to animals.

Licking County sheriff's deputies said that Dunkle's mother told them her son asked for $3 to buy beer and when she told him she didn't have the money, he grabbed the cat and kicked it to death. Dunkle told deputies that he drank two 40-ounce bottles of beer before killing the cat.
