A neglected dog was rescued by police on the morning of Oct 26 in Thibodaux after a concerned resident told officers of the animal's plight, according to a Thibodaux Police report.

The small female dog was seized from the home of Ronnie Lee Berry, 29, 305 N. 13th St., the report said.

Berry was cited for cruelty to animals after police arrived at his home about 9 a.m. and found the dog chained to a fence with no food or water.

The animal�s ribcage and backbone were showing through its coat.

The dog was taken to the city animal shelter where it was treated.

The police department credited the resident who called in the complaint.
