A Galveston man faced felony charges after he threw his puppy down a flight of stairs to discipline her, according to officers.

The puppy, named Precious, is an 11-month old pit bull terrier. Galveston police said that when Precious had trouble with house training, the owner, Bernard Williams, 24, threw Precious down a staircase at the Seaside Point Apartments. The fall broke Precious' leg. "The man came home Friday, found that the dog had jumped over the gate and soiled the carpet so he threw (her) down a staircase to discipline (her)," said Officer Joel Caldwell with the Galveston Police Department.

Williams could face animal cruelty charges, which used to be a misdemeanor but is now a felony. It could result in jail time, according to officers.
