A New York City man has animal cruelty tacked onto assault charges after his girlfriend's tropical fish were killed with a bottle of bleach. Kareem Cooper, 25, was arrested outside the couple's apartment early Oct 25 after a night of violent arguing with his girlfriend, the New York Post said.

Police said Cooper struck the woman on the face and leg before grabbing a bottle of bleach from under the kitchen sink.

The woman said Cooper asked, "OK, you want to play?" -- before dumping the bleach into her aquarium.

Cooper was charged with assault, menacing, harassing and animal cruelty.
