A man who allegedly shot and killed his neighbor's cat was charged Sept 18 with intentional killing the animal, a police officer said. Kerry Mayo, of McMinnville Highway in Woodbury, was charged by Officer John Howse after he allegedly shot the fully-grown cat owned by his neighbors, Jeremy and Sheena Grant.
"The person who got arrested stated a gray cat got onto his hood, scratched it and relieved itself on it," Howse said. "He didn't shoot it off the truck."
Mayo retrieved a .12-gauge shotgun from his other truck and allegedly shot the cat from less than 20 feet away after it jumped off the truck, the officer said.
"He was mad because he had a brand new truck, and he's going to have to have the hood painted," Howse said.
Damage to the truck was estimated at more than $500.
Mayo was booked into Cannon County Jail where he was released on bond. His hearing is set Oct. 25 in Cannon County General Sessions Court. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
