more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Case Updates: 1 update(s) available

A Savannah man was arrested after police say they found a starving dog and the skeletal remains of another dog in his backyard. Akelo Stone, 33, was arrested on two counts of animal cruelty and one count abandoning a dead dog in private property.

Savannah-Chatham police were called to Stone's house on the night of Oct 21 after an animal complaint. They found one dog so malnourished the officer said he could see his ribs. Police called in animal control who searched the yard and found the remains of another dog, still attached to a chain.

Stone told police the dogs belonged to a friend he let use his yard, but police say Stone told them he didn't know the friend's last name

A Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department police report indicated on Friday, October 21st police found the skeletal remains of the head of a deceased dog still attached to a chain in the backyard of Stone's home. Another dog they found in the backyard was "badly malnourished." A veterinarian later determined the dog needed to be put to sleep.

In the report police said Stone told them he was allowing one of his co-workers to keep the two dogs at his house for the last three weeks. But police said Stone's girlfriend told them the dogs were Stone's and had been at the home for 3 months.

On Oct 28, Stone was in the Chatham County Jail on an $8300 bond.

Stone has been charged with two counts of cruelty to animals and one count of abandoning a dead dog on private property.
