A 39-year-old man shot a kitten twice before being arrested on animal cruelty charges on Oct 8, authorities said. Stephen Duan Brimmer of 15023 17th St. in Dade City used a BB gun to shoot the feline in the left shoulder, a police report said. One BB traveled to the kitten's throat area, causing the animal to experience difficulty breathing, a deputy wrote in his report.

Animal control responded and took the kitten into custody. They told a sheriff's deputy that the animal would be euthanized.

Brimmer was expected to be released without bail from Land O'Lakes Jail late Oct 9.
