Sixteen kittens and cats were found abandoned in a public park. Abandoned at just 6 weeks old, the cats and kittens were dumped at a Westerville skateboard park on Park Meadow Drive.

"That's what's so frustrating. People had these cats, then just pitched them out," said Kim Stambaugh, a Westerville Animal Control officer. "They had taken some big boxes out of their vehicle and had dumped them over, releasing multiple cats."

A park worker spotted two women dumping the cats and called Westerville police.

According to Stambaugh, Hidie Will and Melissa Brown told police why they dumped the cats.

"The shelters were full, so they decided to give them a shot at life by releasing them into one of our parks," she said.

Officers were able to get most of the kittens and cats except one.

"There was one unfortunately found hit by a car the next morning," Stambaugh said.

The women, charged with abandoning animals, are scheduled to appear in court in October.

Citizens For Humane Action is taking care of the kittens. Most will be up for adoption. Contact them at:
