Middletown Town Justice Glen George said that state police at Margaretville seized 21 cats and three dogs from Cameron Lickey of Little Red Kill Road because she was in violation of a court order limiting her to possession of no more than five spayed or neutered cats.
Justice George said Roxbury Justice Wayne Pebler issued the order limiting her to five cats as part of a plea bargain. In the case, Dr. Dan Sullivan of the Grand Gorge Animal Hospital sought charges against Lickey for abandoning animals at the veterinary clinic.
On Sept. 8, Lickey appeared in Roxbury Town Court and pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct. Pebler ordered her to make $1,164 restitution to Sullivan and as a condition of the agreement ordered that she was limited to ownership of five fixed cats, George said.
George said state police discovered that Lickey was harboring 21 cats when they went to investigate complaints about barking dogs.
Verna Dietrich, Middletown dog control officer, said she assisted troopers in the seizure of Lickeys three dogs, which were taken because they were not licensed and had not received rabies shots.
Dietrich said state police seized the cats, but she transported them to the Delhi shelter.
George said Lickey was arraigned in Middletown Town Court Sept. 19 on three counts of harboring unlicensed dogs and three counts of harboring dogs without rabies vaccinations. He said she is due back in court on Sept 28. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
