Case UpdatesSecond teenager admits he held Purr Purr a kitten while a friend set her on fire. The 15-year old boy was sentenced to eight days in detention by Judge Frank Yraguen. The boy was arrested Thursday at his Gervais home. He spent the night in juvenile detention, appeared in court with his mother, they did not want an attorney but wanted to proceed immediately with the case. His sentence was the same as that handed down Dec 21 by JudgeTom Hart to another 15-year old boy who admitted dousing the kitten with diesel fuel.
The 12-week old kitten was set on fire Sept 11 and was found alive. Purr Purr was cared for at a veterinary clinic until she died on Oct 3.
The kitten was a stray that had got into the garage of his friend near Gervais. They tied up the kitten, one boy held the kitten while his friend poured fuel over the body. After setting a newspaper on fire they held it to the kitten's fur.
Both boys were placed on probation that potentially could last until they are 23 years old. Other conditions included a $350 fine, 40 hours of community service and writing a letter of apology. The judge ordered a psychological evaluation and counseling.
First teen arrested had been given psychoogical testing before he appeared in court because there was a period of three weeks between his arrest and sentence. | Source: The Statesman-Journal, Salem OR - Jan 6, 2001 Update posted on May 29, 2005 - 3:55PM |
