Two dogs shot, one dies
Blanco, NM (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Sep 18, 2005
County: San Juan

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged:
» Eric Alcon
» Kenneth Alcon
» Mark Alcon
» Segfredo Alcon

Three men and a 13-year-old boy have been arrested in connection with a Sept 18 drive-by shooting in Blanco, according to the San Juan County Sheriff's Department.

No people were injured, but two dogs were shot, one fatally.

The case is still under investigation, but sheriff's officials say it appears to be in retaliation for a prior argument between the four suspects and a Bloomfield man who lives at the home where the shooting took place.

"Our primary objective is to determine whether the underlying motive for the shooting was gang tension or another factor, such as drugs or a personal vendetta," said Sheriff Bob Melton.

The four individuals, all of whom are related, were arrested on Sept 18.

Eric Alcon, 25, of Blanco, was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit a shooting at a dwelling, accessory to extreme cruelty to animals, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Both Mark Alcon, 22, and Segfredo Alcon, 23, both of Blanco, were charged with two counts of shooting at a dwelling, two counts of conspiracy to shoot at a dwelling, two counts of extreme cruelty to animals, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Segfredo Alcon was arrested on an additional charge of having an outstanding Bloomfield Municipal Court warrant.

Kenneth Alcon, 13, of Blanco, was charged with two counts of shooting at a dwelling, two counts of conspiracy to shoot at a dwelling, and two counts of extreme cruelty to animals.

Although Kenneth Alcon is a juvenile, The Daily Times is publishing his name because of the seriousness of the crime in which he is charged. San Juan County Sheriff's Department Detective Tyler Truby said the Alcons are related, but did not know if they are brothers and cousins. The shooting occurred Sunday at approximately 6:45 p.m.

The four individuals allegedly used .22-caliber rifles to shoot at a residence on County Road 5067 near Bloomfield, according to law enforcement officials.

The home was unoccupied at the time and people were injured.

Investigators, however, believe the individuals drove back to the house a second time and parked in the driveway, again shooting at the residence.

The suspects allegedly shot two dogs in the yard of the house, injuring one and killing the other, investigators said.

Witnesses provided authorities with a vehicle description of the white Chevrolet SUV that was used in the shooting. They also told police that the suspects were wearing red bandanas, suggesting gang affiliation.

While deputies searched for the vehicle, New Mexico State Police secured the crime scene until the sheriff's detectives arrived, police said.

Detectives recovered numerous .22-caliber shell casings from the front of the home and in the roadway. When the suspects were arrested, three .22-caliber rifles were found inside the vehicle, in addition to numerous rounds of .22-caliber ammunition and spent shell casings, according to sheriff's officials.

Eric Alcon, who was determined to be the driver of the vehicle, was given a BAC (blood alcohol content) test and blew a .23 BAC - almost three times the legal limit, deputies say.

Eric Alcon, Mark Alcon, and Segfredo Alcon were booked into the San Juan County Detention Center.

Kenneth Alcon was booked into the San Juan County Juvenile Detention Center.
