Two pet goats were killed sometime late on the night of Sept 20 and the Humane Society is investigating this bizarre crime.

"You don't know what it is," said the farmer who wants his privacy protected as well as his pets. "You don't know who's out there or what they are after."

The family wants to find out who killed their three year old pet goats Charlie and Phyllis.

"It's just hard to believe," he said. "You didn't know what to think. There's a thousand things going through your mind. I guess you just hoped it was a terrible accident, but that wasn't the case."

The family thinks maybe someone spotted the goats from the walking path near their property or from the road. But they say that's a slim possibility because the goats were rather far back on their land.

They think someone might have walked through before this happened.

"It doesn't seem like it was a random deal," said the farmer. "It seems like it was planned, with more intent."

The Humane Society agrees.

"The goats had bailing wire around their neck and they were hog-tied," said Tina Updegrove of the Nebraska Humane Society. "On further inspection is when they found the holes in their jugular."

Updegrove said the people knew what they were doing.

"There was no blood on the property," she said. "So it was very clean, whomever did this. However very gruesome. We see this and we think 'cult activity,' which is a very high possibility."

The goats were pets to the family's children and followed them everywhere.

As they deal with their loss, they also want to warn others.

"Anyone who's got goats better be on the alert, I guess," said the farmer.

The Humane Society is taking the case seriously. It wants answers and is offering up to $1,000 in reward money.
