Cats abandoned in home Ilion, NY (US)Incident Date: Saturday, Sep 10, 2005 County: Herkimer
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Veronica Perez-Price
Ilion police charged an Ilion resident with three counts of abandonment of animals and three counts of failing to provide sustenance.
According to police, Veronica Perez-Price, 22, left her three cats behind when she moved. "She wasn't feeding them," said Ilion police Capt. Laurie DeVaul. "She didn't take them with her."
Animal Control Officer Richard Pettengill received the first call about the abandoned cats.
"Neighbors see everything," Pettengill said. It was a neighbor who called him. "You gotta do the right thing for these animals."
Pettengill stressed that if an individual can't take their cats with them, they should find a home for them or take them to the Humane Society shelter.
"If you abandon these animals, you will be prosecuted," Pettengill said.
Perez-Price was arraigned before Judge Donald Pearson in village of Ilion Court, where she pleaded not guilty to the six counts she faced. References« NY State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Herkimer County, NY
