Polk County sheriff's deputies arrested two Lakeland men on Aug 30 on charges stemming from a March incident when deputies reported finding several emaciated and dehydrated dogs, hens and roosters at his home.

Joshua Steven Scott, 18, was arrested and charged with 11 counts of animal cruelty; deputies found 21 animals -- 10 adult dogs, three puppies, six hens and two roosters -- at his 1505 S. Wabash Ave. home March 26, according to a Polk County Sheriff's Office complaint report.

The State Attorney's Office issued an arrest warrant in August for Joshua Scott and Robin Timothy Scott Jr., 20, who also lives at the South Wabash home, records show.

The 20-year-old was arrested Aug. 30 and also charged with 11 counts of animal cruelty, the report said.

It is unclear why several months passed before the arrests were made.

Both men told deputies they intentionally did not feed or provide water for the animals for more than a week, the report said.

Two of the dogs had to be euthanized, the report said.

Both men are being held in Polk County Jail on $8,500 bail, records show.
