Dog kicked
Fitchburg, MA (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Sep 7, 2005
County: Worcester

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Stephon Jones

An 11-month old, female pit bull dog became the victim of a violent crime when its owner's son allegedly kicked the dog on the afternoon or Sept 7, police Sgt. Glenn C. Fossa said.

Police arrested Stephon Jones, 18, of 118 Myrtle Ave., second floor, and charged him with animal cruelty and disorderly conduct, Fossa said.

"Several witnesses allegedly did see him kick the dog and mistreat it," Fossa said.

Officer Todd M. Deacon went to the home and questioned Jones after witnesses called police, and Jones allegedly made incriminating "admissions" that led to the charges, Fossa said.

The dog, which is tan and white, did not suffer serious injuries as a result of the alleged attack, according to Animal Control Officer Suzan L. Kowaleski. The dog has all its proper shots and licenses, Kowaleski said.

"The pit bull itself was a phenomenal dog," she added. "It was very well-behaved."

Jones' father, whose name has not been released, was not home when the incident occurred. He told police he will have his neighbor watch the dog when he is away from now on, Fossa said.

District Court Judge Andrew L. Mandell ordered Jones to take a class on "control of dogs," and released him on personal recognizance bail after an arraignment hearing at Fitchburg District Court later that day, according to court documents. Jones is due back in court for a pre-trial hearing on Oct. 11.

Police previously arrested Jones on Aug. 11, when he and another teen allegedly attempted to break into a Congress Street woman's home, according to police reports.

Jones was released on $500 cash bail for that case, according to court documents.
